The 26th Man - A Newsletter by Michael Canter: V1 E2 - Smoking the Ivy

Image
Good Afternoon, and welcome subscribers to my second newsletter. I hope today finds you all in fine fettle and I come bearing some good news. The newsletter will be officially named The 26th Man and will be a weekly starting today. So instead of getting a post from me every other Saturday, you'll get one once weekly going forward. Huzzah!  As the subscription list grows I'll transition to a more interactive site like Mailchimp, or something similar, but for now this is about as good as it gets. And though sharing newsletters is usually considered a breach of etiquette, I encourage you to share the first couple so that you can help me build my subscriber list. I am hoping to reach 2,000 total, and so far I have just you five :-) Direct potential new subscribers to this link to subscribe . If you are mentioned as a referral, I'll send you $5 for each annual membership that I can verify as a direct referral. More Good News for Subscribers I have to take some time off o...

I'm Going to Write a Book and Publish a Semi-Monthly Newsletter

Image
Well hello there! It's been awhile, hasn't it? I have been encouraged by a number of people to write a book about being a Cubs fan, so I've decided to take the plunge. I'm not sure of the title, but it will be about growing up a Cubs fan on Chicago's South Side. This will be the realization of a lifelong dream, and though I know nothing about editing and publishing, and little about the already saturated market for Cubs books, I do know that I offer a unique perspective as compared to other writers. If you would like to see an example of my writing, and the basic theme of my upcoming book, I urge you to take a look at a recent example of my writing for the Cubs Insider website. I believe you will agree that of the hundreds of books written about the Cubs none offer the same viewpoint that I do. Because I am starting this endeavor without a publisher deal, I have to self-finance my effort. In order to do that, I am going to write a semi-monthly newsletter t...

As a singer, writer and record producer, Mayfield stands as one of the giants of American popular music, and Super Fly provides his most inspired work. Mayfield paints a street-smart landscape set against the gritty underbelly of 1970's inner-city life: sophisticated and enlightening; sensitive, but still biting. Bob Donat of Rolling Stone Magazine , describes this album perfectly: "...the greatest quality of any sou...

A Trip Thru Your Grooves - Episode 19 Barring anything I may receive as Christmas gifts and the purchase of Pet Sounds by the Beach Boys I am waiting on, here is the updated list. Ahhh... records. I just love everything about them. My new favorite downtime thing to do is to go to Acme Records in Bayview, WI, grab an LP, put it on a turntable and listen through a pair of real headphones. The link to Acme Records is in the left margin. Let's meet sometime and shop together! Oh, and before I get started, I am taking donations. This gadget-ma-thing here will be at the top of every blog. Donation Toward Purchases Used Album $5.00 USD New Album $10.00 USD Collectable $20.00 USD These are the albums that I have picked up or have been donated to me since I started this. I'll do an update every month. Incidentally, today is the 13th anniversary of the night my house burned down and I lost all my music.  Sad night. Not just for me, but for music. A lot of w...

Warner Bros. wasn't very happy with that decision and decided that they would capitalize on the band's back catalog by releasing a compilation of songs with no input from the band. As if to say "thanks for nothing," they sanctioned an artist to design the cover using none...
